I have been getting a lot of questions and comments about how I have been creating more digital art lately. I thought I would share my thoughts on the subject here.
I remember the first time I saw digital art.  I was about 14 (that means the year was 1989). My friends Marty and Toby showed me a magazine with these absolutely astounding digital paintings of outerspace, and landscapes on other planets. These images were so beautiful that I never forgot them. The magazine said this is the future direction of art. I saw that the look of these digital paintings could never be produced with traditional art supplies, and this was a new medium and new look. I was greatly saddened to be poor, however, and it took me twenty years to finally gain access to digital painting tools and I feel like I have finally arrived to where I've wanted to be since I was 14.
I am happy in many ways that I have learned to make traditional art, and learned to use what I happened to have around me to create. This often meant cheap pens and crayons, but I am proud of the traditional art I have created in my life. I do not plan to ever abandon traditional art, but, the world of digital art has far more possibilities for me.
There are many advantages to digital art, and my favorite thing about it is the infinite supply of paint, paper, brushes, canvas, etc. Traditionally, it costs a lot to be an artist and buy the supplies. The high cost of paint always made me feel afraid to experiment because I didn't want to waste paint. I feel so incredibly liberated by digital art, and finally free to express everything I have ever dreamed of creating. I am so happy that creative technology is more accessable to everyone, and no longer only a thing for people with money. Also, the technology of digital creation has come a long way over the years, and I am constantly amazed at how digital replicates the real look of paint, canvas, brush strokes, etc.
Also, digital art is "green". The process of creating paint, paper, canvas, etc. is usually at least somewhat toxic, and uses finite natural resources. I really think digital art is growing and will become much more accepted in the future, and in one hundred years digital art might even be considered traditional art.
In a perfect world, I would prefer infinite supplies of every art tool on Earth, created in a green manner, but that is impossible. Nothing can replace the tactile sensations of creating traditional art, and a piece of art created traditionally is truly a one of a kind object that can never be replicated. Scans and photos of art never capture the entire essence of a traditional work of art.
And so, I do like traditional art but it's not practical or affordable. I am growing much more and having more fun with digital.

I like what this person had to say on the subject:
POSTED BY: KATHERINE On 2007-08-29 10:04:23
"Scientifically and spiritually all is an illusion anyway. All we are are what is on this moment. Memory and thoughts and fears of the future are all just imaginations. The whole world is the creativity of One Consciousness which pervades all. The same Consciousness enlivens every form (love thy neighbour as thyself) and creates. Resistance to the creativity of the one Consciousness comes from egotism of the "little me". All is God's creativity - computers, computer music, computer art, the internet - all is God's creativity and we are privileged to play with it. Painting digitally (Corel Painter X is a master software program for this) is as engrossing as traditional painting, but not so messy and one's creativity is not hampered by glitches like the paint has to dry first, ink fell over my masterpiece, I have to buy more vermilion before I can continue, I need more stretched canvas before I can express my idea. None of these problems exist with digital painting. It's the same with music. Yes, the unplugged guitar is beautiful, the piano, trumpet, clarinet, violin and all the other instruments are beautiful when played perfectly with other instruments. Then came digital music and the arguments against it, but the beauty of digital music is stunning, a whole new vista on music. The new digital developments in all fields are all progress. They broaden the fields of expression. The fields of expression by the One Consciousness, the One all-pervading God. Long live digital painting! Long live digital music. And long live all forms of expression, no matter whether digital or traditional. The joy of the creator beams through them all."

Oh yes, the lack of mess is wonderful with digital art, I forgot to mention that!

My art will be featured on t-shirts that will be worn on a walk for Cystic Fibrosis! My art: fav.me/d3114jk
The contest was in "Emily's Army" emilys-army.deviantart.com/
The walk will raise money for Cystic Fibrosis research.

It was actually a tie, and my art will be on the front of the shirt, and this lovely artist's work will be on the back of the shirt: fav.me/d300u5l

I am honored and happy to be able to contribute somehow to creating awareness about Cystic Fibrosis; a serious disease of which most people do not know much about.

Some Cystic Fibrosis facts:

-The name, cystic fibrosis of the pancreas, was first
applied to the disease in 1938.

-Children who couldn't pronounce Cystic Fibrosis called the disease 65 Roses

-While several decades ago most children with Cystic Fibrosis died by age 2, today about half of all people with Cystic Fibrosis live past age 31.

-Cystic Fibrosis is a genetic disease, meaning it is caused
by a defect in the person's genes.

- There are over 500 known defects in the CFTR gene that can cause Cystic Fibrosis. However, 70% of all people with a defective CFTR gene have the same defect, known as delta-F508.
